Thai Me Up Sandwich Bar opened in march of 2007 to rave reviews from visitors loving its delicious dishes and fun, sexy concept. Today, the food continues to earn praise from diners looking for healthy, filling, and light food. Besides the original sandwich, the menu offers rice and noodle dishes, fresh salads , homemade dumplings, and a smattering of healthy drinks and side dishes.
But back to the sandwich. A mixture of 7 hand-cut vegetables and choice of meat is stir-fried with a choice of Thai flavors. Meanwhile, a scooped out baguette, layered with condiments, is prepared by the sandwich maker at the counter. The toasted bread is stuffed with the stir-fry and served piping hot as the grand finale. For vegetarians, the sandwich can be made with tofu or an extra smattering of hand-cut vegetables. The fresh baguette soaks up the sauce so Hushinsky advises eaters to "Peel the wrapping and eat the sandwich like a burrito!".
Diners craving rice or noodles can order their stir-fries with pad thai noodles and jasmine rice. On the menu too are freshly cut salads with zesty, homemade vinaigrettes and dressings. The namesake Thai Me Up salad, a bowl of nappa cabbage & julienned vegetables, makes a grand meal when topped with meat or tofu. When asked about his favorite dish, Hushinsky is most proud of his Chicken Black Pearl Sandwich, a customer favorite.
On a busy weekday night, customers line up at the small shop located on 238 East 14 Street, New York, NY 10003, ordering Black Pearl and White Ginger Sandwiches, noodles with a zesty, pineapple sauce, fresh fruit shakes, and platters of dumplings. The friendly staff serves up all natural, tasty food that leaves customers "all tied up". Owner Amir introduced the Thai Sandwich to New York. His big dream is all wrapped up in one tight package.
